So, clearly, one thing a lot of people noticed with the announcement of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is that a lot of the characters have changed their appearance. While some of these changes are hit and miss, there’s a lot of changes that make sense! So I thought I would do a little series about them. So I present…
Then and now: Cliff!
Cliff’s a little trickier to nail down the why of all of his new design choices since he doesn’t have an immediate family in Mineral Town. He’s just a very different person than who his look was originally designed for! His original design came from 64, where he was Eve’s (from the SNES game) grandson, but he took more of his personal beliefs from his great great grandfather. Living in the mountains and hunting for his food and likely re-purposing the fur for his clothing after he moves into town rather than rent a room at an Inn.

Mineral Town’s Cliff on the other hand is a fair bit meeker in his personality and very much prefers having a roof over his head. His redesign reflects this as now his overall outfit looks more like a tailor may’ve looked at it at some point, he carries a bag for his things, and is just trying to find a job to keep living comfortably rather than ever have to live off the land. Maybe the poor guy had to cut his ponytail off to be more “employable?” A great loss. It also means the bit of blonde hair his 64 counterpart inherited from Eve has nowhere to go, though it wouldn’t be the first time his hair went completely brown.

Hopefully the long sleeves help you stay warm this time, buddy.
